Lada 2109 BLACK NINE «CENTRE SIDE». Машина, которая заняла свое место в мифологии «DRIVE2». Более того — в Пантеоне местных богов она уже долгое время удерживает первые места. Сегодня разговор пойдет о ней. Её хозяине. Её хейтерах. Её фанатах. Как Академик Всесоюзной Академии Автомобильного Колхоза, я имею на это полное право. А как обладатель машины, «в которую я вложил всю свою душу»™ так тем более:-)

Для удобства чтения читать можно не всё, а по подглавам.

БОРТОВОЙ ЖУРНАЛ МОНОДВОРНИКА
Достойный. Я его весь прочитал!

Потому что если хочешь про что-то написать, надо в теме разобраться. А если бы проект ещё жив был — так ещё и подписался бы. Чисто математически: количество записей в БЖ больше чем уровень «драйва». Это уже классно — большинство машин, участвующих в выборах машины дня обладают достаточно «тоненькими», в плане объема (да и что уж скрывать — в плане интересности тоже), бортовиками. Но количество записей — показатель формальный. Можете забросать меня помидорами, но читать БЖ Монодворника интересно, не смотря на кучу грамматических ошибок. Да и написан он с душой, «тюнинг» освещен достаточно подробно. Поэтому если говорить про качество бортового журнала — он очень даже достойный. Да, немного смущает просвечивающаяся «четкость» и «гоповатость», но это даже придает журналу свою долю романтики. Приятно отметить также то, что статьи в журнале более-менее связаны между собой. Единственное что раздражает — ряд опасных для дорожного движения доработок: «пердак», быдлоксенон, занижение с изменением развала задних колес. Поэтому к журналу претензий нет, для половины БЖ из «Топ-100» (там где кроме голых сисек ничего больше нет) его даже можно привести как образцовый.

ЛЁХА
Но есть в его БЖ одна неприятная «заноза». Но она относится к личности Лёхи, а не к машине и её БЖ. Я Лёху не знаю, я с ним не общался поэтому судить не могу. Тем не менее не сказать про эту «закавыку» я тоже не могу.

Весь БЖ автор признается в бешеной и лютой любви к своему автомобилю. Это классно и достойно. Но со словами «надо двигаться вперед» продает машину с наваром. При этом обратно её возвращать не хочет. Мне этого конечно не понять (у Призрака есть гараж), но автомобиль, которому я признавался и признаюсь в любви — до сих пор мой. И расставаться с ним добровольно я не собираюсь. Вообще. Никогда. Пусть даже mersbrabus мне предложит махнуться не глядя на его «Бентли» — не соглашусь. Потому что я оставил слишком много себя в своем автомобиле, чтобы с ним расставаться.

Правда, если присмотреться, то можно заподозрить, что Центрсайд делался для перепродажи «в плюс». А БЖ и «легендарность» — лишний повод (а может даже и средство) поднять цену.

И вот, плавно мы переходим к машине.

МОНОДВОРНИК
Во-первых про «Топ-100». Если исходить из того, что Drive2 — это сообщество машин и людей, то становится понятно, что тюнинг здесь — не определяющий фактор. Отсюда и споры про «Топ-100»: одни хотят видеть там супернавороченные монструозные проекты, другие — красивые фото дорогих машин, третьи — машины с записями о путешествиях. Отсюда и споры. Когда администрацию это вконец достало, была предложена альтернатива «топу» — раздел «Избранное». И я считаю — это было абсолютно правильное решение. Но посмотрим на машину подробнее. Не только на фото из бортового журнала, но и на её неретушированные фото:

Это обычный дорожный ВАЗ — не раз восстанавливавшийся после различных ДТП. Такой же как у меня, такой же как у половины жигулистов на сайте и за пределами сайта. Тюнинг? Да есть немного. Уникального, правда, здесь нет ничего: всё это я видел в Краснодаре массово у адыгов в те времена, когда у Лехи ещё и машины не было: черный лак, занижение на три витка, белые поворотники спереди, «Про-спортовская» «альтернатива» или «самонаборные» светодиодные огни сзади, «пердак», глухая тонировка, 16-клапанные моторы под капотом, «воздушные» диски, иногда «ксянончык», да даже те же «бэдбой»-капоты. Всё это было. Было давно и массово. Каждая машина отличалась, конечно, своими уникальными нюансами. Но за пределы погрешности в «три сигмы» не выпадала. Как не выпадает из этой погрешности и Монодворник. В старых подшивках «Тюнинга автомобилей» таких машин — пруд пруди, что в статьях, что в объявлениях о продаже (да-да, тех самых, где 2108 с одним валом и объемом 1,3 литра без турбины выдают по 140 лысых).

Таким образом, выдающимся «тюнингом» в сабже не пахнет. Более того — это машина изначально построенная в устаревшем, на момент постройки, стиле ибо когда начинался проект Монодворника, умы автомобилистов уже проедал рак моды на «ресто».

Но смотреть на фотографии Монодворника приятно. Почему? А почему неинтересно смотреть на фотографии того же Монодворника, после продажи? Ведь машина та же самая. Причина простая — хороший фотограф, чистая, в момент съемок, машина и хорошая постобработка. Вот и всё. Вот и весь секрет. Надо отдать должное Лехе в том, что он не позволял себе ездить на грязной машине и уж тем более выкладывать в БЖ неудачные фото.

Если внимательно, без пристрастий и соплей, почитать БЖ автомобиля, посмотреть на фотографии машины после продажи, то становится понятно, что либо Леха не самых лучший кузовщик, либо душу он вкладывал в машину как прораб из той притчи. Потому что так никто не делает — шпатлевка, насколько я знаю, должна наносится тоненьким слоем, а если не можешь достичь тонкого слоя — ровняй жестянку пока не достигнешь (а лучше вывари гниль и ввари новое железо), потому что толстая шпатля осыплется от вибраций. И чем толще — тем быстрее. В БЖ автор часто говорит о вздутии краски на пластиковых деталях. Задам один вопрос (замечу, что я сам — далеко не маляр и не кузовщик): а перед покраской детали хотя бы грунтовались? Судя по всему нет. А о какой душе может идти речь, когда под душой нет грунта?

Отдельная песня — «домик» которым стоят задние колеса. Автор сделал так специально, чтобы не цеплять арки (и не отрицал этого). Фанаты восхищаются «спортивным» развалом как у BMW Х5. А я сижу и в шоке обтекаю: такой развал задних колес отличный повод для торга при осмотре таких машин как «Форд Скорпио» или «БМВ» в кузове е39 на пару с «Мерседес» в кузове W124.

Поэтому, если БЖ автомобиля и его фотографии в нем представляют хотя бы художественную ценность, то машина — никак нет. Просто выгодная перепродажа машины, выполненной по уже ушедшей моде ( q7228 даже калькуляцию приводил).

Но оставим в покое машину — большинство ВАЗов на сайте ещё более плачевны да и перекупов здесь тоже хватает, поговорим лучше про главное — про хейтеров и фанатов.

ХЕЙТЕРЫ
Разношерстная публика. Кто-то ненавидит Монодворник из зависти, кто-то просто по приколу или потому, что задолбал уже — три года на первом месте «Топ-100» как-никак, хотя машина, словно старая путана, ходит по рукам и всё больше и больше приближается к свалке.

Зато никто не портит музыку так, как её фанаты! Поговорим немного про них. Это реально интересно. Ведь благодаря им, стена Монодворника — офигенный уютный чятик и зимовник троллей. И без фанатов это был бы просто ВАЗ 2109, а никак не легенда D2 и локальный мем. Перечислю «Топ-5» заблуждений фанатов.

5) Это лучшая 2109!
Во-первых есть «зубилы» лучше. Даже на этом сайте. Во-вторых — качество исполнения «всплыло» после продажи т.к. новые владельцы не запаривались ежедневными мойками машины ради красивых фоточек и создания легендарного ореола.

Во-вторых — не надо подражать. Когда я узнал что такое «тюнинг», то это слово переводилось как «сделать со своей машиной что-то индивидуальное». Леха подражал хачмобилям, фанаты Монодворника подражают Лехе. Вспоминаются слова из одной хорошей песни: «Кто нищий духом, волей слаб — всегда тот будет чей то раб. Раб привычек и страстей найдет себе рабов-друзей». Не пора ли взять, и сделать что-то своё? По-настоящему индивидуальное.

4) Сперва добейся!
Большинство критиков и хейтеров Монодворника возмущены тем, что машина уже который год занимает верхние строчки Топ-100, хотя хозяину давно не принадлежит, и есть много других достойных проектов. Тут надо понимать, что мало кто из критиков Монодворника явно претендует на его место в топе (разве что Ильич). Остальные просто знают, что есть ДРУГИЕ интересные проекты (Аудюха Файрберда, Подделка Мерсбрабуса, Хот-род из «Москвича» и, конечно же, работы Стрелка) и выступают в их поддержку. Самое унылое и неинтересное заблуждение. Если читателям будет интересно, я могу начать целую рубрику посвященную интересным машинам «драйва», которых нет в «Топ-100».

3) Всё брали пример с Монодворника.
Явное нарушение причинно-следственной связи, которое я кроме как time-paradox воспринимать не могу. Сам Леха писал о своей мечте попасть на страницы «Тюнинга автомобилей» (куда это легенда, почему-то, так и не попала, насколько я знаю), значит читал журнал до покупки машины и в процессе «тюнинга». Да и машина его сделана в том духе, в котором было сделано большинство «девяток» из этого журнала, про которые рассказывалось в период с 2002 по 2007 год (может и шире — просто я только в этот период данный журнал читал). Пример с Краснодаром, где каждый третий адыг ездил на двойнике монодворника ещё в 2005 году, я приводил выше.

2) Монодворник — легенда.
Вот когда про него будет ОТДЕЛЬНАЯ статья на лурке — тогда да, настоящая легенда рунета. А пока что — локальный мем «Драйва» и, пожалуй, стритрейсеров Екатеринбурга.

1) Они никогда не будут вместе!
А нужно? Подобным нытьем вы, четкие и дерзкие пацанчики, становитесь подобны бабушкам, которые обсуждая очередную серию своей бразильской тележевачки причитают: «О! Хуан и Хуанита никогда больше не будут вместе!» Смешно? Мне нет — мне грустно. Грустно от того, что тысячи здоровых парней с неистовостью религиозных фанатиков поклоняются фальшивому идолу.

Создание и поклонение искусственным идолам — не лучшее времяпровождение — оно ограничивает сознание. Любите лучше свои машины, дарите им свою любовь, а не поклоняйтесь искусственным идолам.

Лада 2109 «Black Nine» или просто «Centre S >

Работа была проделана титаническая: установлен 71-ый коленвал, шатуны 121 с плавающем пальцем, поршни ВАЗ 82.0, кольца компрессионные МАЛЕ, маслосъемные кольца СТК, 16 клапанная головка блока цилиндров с двумя распредвалами, доработанная под валы 9,8 ОКБ Динамика 290 фаза с подпятниками, с перекрытием на впуске 2.0, выпуске 1.8, ресивер ОКБ Динамика 5л с дудками, дроссель 54, облегченные впускные и выпускные шестерни ОКБ Динамика, форсунки Волга, насос топливный Волга выносной, регулятор давления топлива 3.8кПа, топливная рампа 1.5 с обраткой, фильтр сапуна, фильтр нулевого сопротивления Про Спорт. В системе выпуска Паук 4-2-1, гиб из нержавеющей стали, резонатор Стингер, банка Про Спорт Дрэг и все это на 51 трубе. В итоге, после всей проделанной работы, двигатель стал быть мощностью 130 л.с., что весьма впечатляюще! Затем была переработана трансмиссия – 18 ряд, пара 4.1, винтовая блокировка с преднатягом 7кг, усиленный карданчик, самодельный рычаг КПП и переделка его хода на более короткий.

Для лучшей управляемости «девятку» значительно снизили, и обули в 16-ти дюймовые кованые колеса на низкопрофильной резине. В экстерьере поменялись капот, передние крылья, зеркала заднего вида F1, установлен монодворник. Стоп сигналы теперь светодиодные, тонированные, головная оптика модифицирована. Автомобиль был перекрашен в черный цвет и затонирован. Все эти изменения придали ему великолепный спортивный вид.

На данный момент известно, что автомобиль был продан и претерпел ряд мелких изменений. Надеемся, что эти изменения были в лучшую сторону!

ВАЗ 2109 – мечта молодого советского автомобилиста, Это был 5-дверный хетчбэк, модификация 3-дверного ВАЗ 2108, первого переднеприводного советского автомобиля. Серийный выпуск модели был налажен в 1987 году и за 17 лет конвейерной сборки не претерпел никаких серьезных изменений, тем самым провоцируя владельцев в той или иной степени модифицировать свои «девятки», дабы выделить их на дороге. К счастью, есть такие владельцы, которым просто освежить автомобиль внешне недостаточно, так как они хотят сделать из своего гражданского авто гоночный болид.

Одним из таких, не часто встречающихся людей, является Лёха Важенин из Екатеринбурга, своими руками создавший из обычного ВАЗ 2109 нечто особенное, а именно автомобиль для участия в гоночных соревнованиях по дрэг-рейсингу (спринтерский заезд на дистанцию в 402 метра. В 2007 году Алексей приобрел «девятку» 1989 года выпуска серого цвета в стоковом варианте с двигателем объемом 1.5 литра. Но случилась неприятность – инспекторы ГИБДД отобрали у парня права на долгие месяцы (за какое нарушение, история умалчивает), и Алексей решил не терять зря время, а заняться модификацией своего автомобиля.

Думаю многие знают эту Лада 2109 как BLACK NINE «CENTRE SIDE» легенда ЕКБ.я не буду писать как она родилась и что с ней происходило))) Все знающие Люди сами знают всю ее историю.

Делал все сам с мечтою попасть Журнал Тюнинг Автомобилей! но получилось так что она стала легендой для пацанов и лучшей 2109, все кто помнят Драйв был просто взорван ей. +

И так:Про мою машину

После продажи своей любимой ВАЗ 2109 «bunker» искал именно девятку, но купил 2112…полетал понял не мое.мое сердце уже было в девятой моделе…поэтому решение упало снова на Девятое, искал искал. И на последний момент перед тем как все бросить я наткнулся на Centre side такую серую, мрачную 09 ща 30т.р так сразу и набрал я был первый кто набрал и сразу же подложил встречу.ехал ждал момент с нетерпением.
И вот я тут.
Забрал ее не в том состоянии что хотелось.
Уставшая, но не растроился, собрана из разных вазовских деталей…короче того что было уже не было в помине…пришлось все начинать сначала…делаю-востанавливаю( Дарю 2 жизнь Легенде. Так сказать или как говорите вы читатели драйв 2 я создал заного машину с 0 за что вам отдельно спасибо, что поддерживаете…купил детали, выровнил все по зазорам, прокинул проводку полностью всю новую ( подкапотка, салон ) переварил все, собрал с голого скилета и начал собранный кузов с 0 шоркать и красить. Получилась черная особа, капот, багажник, пасадка, развал, (Т.Г мотора и тд. Потратил много денег, и год проживания в гараже ну ничего теперь шепчет, и выглядит как раньше в былые времена. мною были завоеваны 2: место в 14 году, авто звук. 14 год 1, место город Барнаул по Внешнему виду и тюнингу авто.15 год. 1, место выстовка авто.

Многие спросят почему новый номер, отвечу очень просто… Машина была утелиизирована…и был запрет на передвежениие…и я один кто боролся с ГАИ за ее легальное возвращение на дорогу… Потратил ужасно много нервов и сил…ну да конечно денег. И вот новая ПТС, номера. И мы снова на дорогах города.

Теперь я в армии… по приходу, буду дальше ковыряться с ней. И делать ее лучше на сколько это возможно. Ведь она не просто машина …она еще и верный друг.

Очень большой список того что хочу сделать. Много уже сделано и восстановлено!

Little Rock Nine — Student Encyclopedia (Ages 11 and up)

Little Rock Nine, group of African American high-school students who challenged racial segregation in the public schools of Little Rock, Arkansas. The group—consisting of Melba Pattillo, Ernest Green, Elizabeth Eckford, Minnijean Brown, Terrence Roberts, Carlotta Walls, Jefferson Thomas, Gloria Ray, and Thelma Mothershed—became the centre of the struggle to desegregate public schools in the United States, especially in the South. The events that followed their enrollment in Little Rock Central High School provoked intense national debate about racial segregation and civil rights.

During the summer of 1957, the Little Rock Nine enrolled at Little Rock Central High School, which until then had been all white. The students’ effort to enroll was supported by the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Brown v. Board of Education (1954), which had declared segregated schooling to be unconstitutional.

Warned by the Little Rock board of education not to attend the first day of school, the nine African American students arrived on the second day accompanied by a small interracial group of ministers. They encountered a large white mob in front of the school, who began shouting, throwing stones, and threatening to kill the students. In addition, about 270 soldiers of the Arkansas National Guard, sent by Arkansas Gov. Orval Eugene Faubus, blocked the school’s entrance. Faubus had declared his opposition to integration and his intention to defy a federal court order requiring desegregation.

The confrontation in Little Rock drew international attention to racism and civil rights in the United States as well as to the battle between federal and state power. Television and newspaper reporters devoted substantial coverage to the “Little Rock Nine,” as the African American students were called.

Pres. Dwight D. Eisenhower, Governor Faubus, and Little Rock’s mayor, Woodrow Mann, discussed the situation over the course of 18 days, during which time the nine students stayed home. The students returned to the high school on September 23, entering through a side door to avoid the protesters’ attention and wrath.

They were eventually discovered, however, and white protesters became violent, attacking African American bystanders as well as reporters for northern newspapers. The students were sent home, but they returned on September 25, protected by U.S. soldiers. Despite Eisenhower’s publicly stated reluctance to use federal troops to enforce desegregation, he recognized the potential for violence and state insubordination. He thus sent the elite 101st Airborne Division, called the “Screaming Eagles,” to Little Rock and placed the Arkansas National Guard under federal command.

The Little Rock Nine continued to face physical and verbal attacks from white students throughout their studies at Central High. One of the students, Minnijean Brown, fought back and was expelled. The remaining eight students, however, attended the school for the rest of the academic year. At the end of the year, in 1958, senior Ernest Green became the first African American to graduate from Little Rock Central High School.

Governor Faubus was reelected in 1958, and, rather than permit desegregation, he closed all of Little Rock’s schools. Many school districts in the South followed Little Rock’s example, closing schools or implementing “school-choice” programs that subsidized white students’ attendance at private segregated academies, which were not covered by the Supreme Court’s decision. Little Rock Central High School did not reopen with a desegregated student body until 1960, and efforts to integrate schools and other public areas throughout the country continued through the 1960s.

Astronomers have captured some of the most detailed images ever seen of galaxies in deep space.

They are in much higher definition than normal and reveal the inner workings of galaxies in unprecedented detail.

Many of the images could yield insights into the role of black holes in star and planet formation.

The researchers say that the pictures will transform our understanding of how galaxies evolve.

The images are of the radio waves emitted by the galaxies. Researchers often study the radio waves from astronomical objects rather than the visible light they give off because it enables them to see things that would otherwise be blocked by the Earth’s atmosphere or dust and gas in faraway galaxies.

Many regions of space that are dark to our eyes, actually burn brightly in the radio waves they give off. This allows astronomers to peer into star-forming regions or into the heart of galaxies.

What is new is that the team has dramatically improved the resolution of radio images by linking together more than 70,000 small antennae spread across nine European counties.

Combining radio signals from so many antennas is not a straight-forward process. The team has spent six years developing a completely new way of collecting the signal from each antenna, digitising it, transporting it to a to central processor, and then combining all the data into images that are not only of enormous scientific interest but also of great beauty.

The accomplishment is a technical tour de force and was led by Dr Leah Morabito from Durham University, UK.

«To work on the data for so long, and then to finally get such images and be able be the first person to see what it looks like is just incredible,» she told BBC News.

«I walked around with a huge smile on my face for the rest of the day, because I felt so proud that I was able to make these images and be able to see something nobody had ever seen before».

The image at the top of the page was produced by a member of Dr Morabito’s team. It shows a galaxy that is barely visible, sitting in the middle of jets of material in orange, shooting out from either side, each one much larger than the galaxy itself.

The jets are caused by a supermassive black hole at the heart of the galaxy- an object with such strong gravity not even light can escape. It normally sucks in material — but the inward pull also creates forces around the black hole that result in material being spat out, far into space.

Such jets have been observed before — but astronomers have obtained new scientific information from the dark bands on the jet on the right, which have not been seen before. These, the astronomers believe, represent periods of relative inactivity by the black hole — when it spits out less material. The image therefore gives researchers an insight into the black hole’s «sleep cycle».

The picture above shows two galaxies colliding. the bright spot on the one on the left is caused by exploding stars — creating what is effectively a galactic wind — blowing dust and gas away from it.

The light from the galaxy shown directly above originated when the Universe was only 2.6 billion years old. Above and below it are jets of material thrown out by the black hole within. Normally such early galaxies can’t be studied in detail. But now, for the first time, the astronomers have seen the structure of one of them at radio frequencies — which provides critical scientific information about how the black hole is interacting with its surroundings.

The images are revealing that galaxies are much more than a collection of stars. They are dynamic sun- and planet-making factories, powered by black holes, according to Dr Neal Jackson, from the University of Manchester.

«Even seasoned astronomers go ‘wow!’ when they see these images,» he told me.

«It’s become very clear that, in order to understand galaxy evolution, we need to understand the black hole right at the very centre, because it appears to have a fairly fundamental influence on how galaxies evolve and that is what these images allow us to do,» says Dr Jackson.

«These high-resolution images allow us to zoom in to see what’s really going on when supermassive black holes launch these jets of material.»

Dr Morabito says that images like these are helping astronomers learn just how these processes, that created stars and planets — including our own Solar System — actually work.

«We are really beginning to understand how galaxies have evolved. And the black holes are a massive part of that because their jets can take away fuel for star formation. And as they push outwards, they can disrupt the galaxies. They can even trigger star formation or quench it and make it happen less,» she said.

The first set of results have led to the publication of nine scientific papers on the dynamics of black holes in galaxies. But this is just the start for the team. They plan to scan millions of galaxies over the next few years.

«And that’s really what we need to be able to understand, the whole complete picture of how black holes impact galaxy evolution,» says Dr Morabito,

«I think we’re definitely in for some surprises. Whenever you start doing something new in astronomy you always find out things that you never expected and that’s what I really look forward to.»

The international network of telescopes is known as the Low Frequency Array known as Lofar for short. Most of the antennas are located in Exloo in the Netherlands.

Art anywhere: Fort McKay youth centre paints murals on shipping containers

‘You can turn everything into a little bit of an art exhibit,’ says youth centre manager

A shipping container has become an opportunity for creativity and art in Fort McKay, Alta., as kids from the local youth centre helped design a mural adorning the unit.

Youth centre manager Dylan Elias said the project started when the youth centre ran out of storage space and the football team needed a spot to put equipment.

The shipping container arrived, which they saw as a big empty canvas.

«It’s right here on the road so everyone drives by it,» said Elias. «Why not give a little taste of what we got going on in here for everyone to see?»

The ideas came from kids at the youth centre, between nine and 19 years old.

«You can turn everything into a little bit of an art exhibit,» said Elias.

He said people have been calling him asking about the project.

«I also see people who come from the road, I see them back up and drive up,» said Elias. «It’s definitely unique.»

Elias said since the project started, the kids have got more creative, and are now finding other places to paint.

Brace Grandjambe is studying art at university in Calgary. Every summer, she goes home to Fort McKay, 55 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, to be an art camp co-ordinator.

She used the children’s ideas and designed the mural facing the road. It hosts a wolf with a pride flag in its maw, a dragon and the word Ahkaméyimok, which translates to «don’t give up» in Cree.

Grandjambe and art camp co-ordinator Richelle Stewart did most of the painting, but all the ideas came from the kids.

«We got a lot of, ‘Wows,’ and I think they were super happy to see their ideas actually portrayed on a giant piece of metal that was previously blank,» said Grandjambe.

It took about three weeks to paint the murals.

The other side of the shipping container was designed by Stewart. It’s the logo for the football team, which is also using the storage space.

The team’s logo is in an ocean, because Stewart liked the pun of having the sea on a sea can.

«We took the time to make it look nice, because I believe it’s good for the community, good for all these students to have their word and expression out there,» said Stewart.

She said she sees most blank spaces around the community as an opportunity to create art.

The shipping container is almost complete, the last piece is a tree with leaves made from the handprints of the kids at the youth centre. The prints are in red and orange paint to represent murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls, and the children in unmarked burial sites at former residential schools.

Status 8/24/2021 — Update

The Green Ridge Fire is 39,471 acres after 49 acres of growth on Monday. The fire is 35% contained. Despite
sunny skies and drier conditions on Monday, fire activity was minimal again due to fuel moistures remaining
high. Crews continued mopping up sections of uncontrolled line in divisions M and K. Containment did not
increase on the Green Ridge Fire on Monday, but firefighters are becoming increasingly confident that
additional portions of fire line in divisions M and K will soon be contained.

On Tuesday, crews will continue efforts mopping up the fire’s edge in divisions M and K. Winds are expected
to increase through the day as the cold front moves over the area. A drying trend will continue today which will
bring lower relative humidity and a return to warmer temperatures. The warmer, drier weather will continue
through the week, which is expected to result in some increased fire behavior. Crews in divisions M and K on
the north and west sides of the fire will continue mop up operations looking for areas of heat and engaging
where it is safe to do so. Three fire suppression modules will be working in divisions P and S on the south
side of the fire. These crews will be monitoring fire activity and engaging any new fires or spots that occur.

Weather & Smoke Information: Temperatures are expected to be warmer on Tuesday with lower relative
humidity. West-northwest winds will blow from 5-8 through the morning then give way to north-northeast winds
in the afternoon. Temperatures will be in the mid-to-high 60s along the ridges and low 70s in the valleys.

Forest Closures: Closures are in place on the Umatilla National Forest. The forest closure for some areas on
the Umatilla NF have been amended. The amended order reopened most Umatilla NF lands in Oregon. The
order also closed all lands on the Walla Walla Ranger District in Washington; forest lands in Washington on
the Pomeroy Ranger District remain closed to entry. The closure order is available at

Evacuations: Evacuations in Garfield and Columbia Counties have been amended. The Level 3 evacuation
area north of the Green Ridge Fire has been changed to a Level 2. This area includes Clearwater Tower,
Stentz Springs, and Rose Springs. With these changes, Garfield County and Columbia County currently have
Level 1 and 2 evacuations in place. The Grouse Flats area is currently under a Level 1 evacuation in Garfield

Overall Objective: The Rough Patch Complex and Jack Fire are being managed under a full suppression
strategy using
containment and confinement tactics to minimize fire spread to prevent loss of valuable resources. Leaders’
intent is
to not allow the fire to progress to the west and to protect private structures throughout the fire area by using
the
PACE model – Primary, Alternate, Contingency and Emergency control Lines and to keep the fires as small as
possible
while working toward full containment.
Closures: The Umpqua and Willamette National Forests have area closure orders to encompass the Rough
Patch,
Jack, Archie Creek, and Devil’s Knob Fire Areas. The closure includes Canton Creek Campground, Musick
Guard
Station, and Cover Campground.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Roseburg District has issued an amended emergency closure on
BLM
administered-public lands near the Rough Patch Complex Fire. The reduction in the closure area to the
Francis Creek
road restores access to the Scaredman Recreation Area and Campground. Highway 138 between Roseburg
and
Diamond Lake and Crater Lake remains open. Slow down and be alert while passing through the fire area.

Chaos and Little Bend Fires: The primary containment lines of these fires lay on the west and northwest
flanks.
Direct and indirect fire lines with burnout operations are complete in the west side of the fire. The focus now is
to
construct fire line to the north to ensure the fire does not move to the north, then again make another push to
the
west. Additional work is being done on the southeast side of the Chaos fire to prevent the fire from moving
south
then to the west. On the Little Bend Fire, containment was added to the west mid-section of the fire which will
assist
in holding the fire in place. These two fires are at 7% containment.
Jack and Buckhead Fires: The Jack Fire has containment lines that are holding on the west, north, and east
flanks of
the fires and these lines account for the 51% containment of the fire. The Buckhead fire has burned into the
Jack fire
to the north. Fire crews are patrolling these flanks and taking action to hold the lines as necessary. The
southwest and
south flanks of the fire are seeing moderate fire behavior – tactics on these flanks include direct dozer line,
the
construction of primary and alternate contingency lines using the road system and building and reinforcing
contingency lines across the fire area. Burning out operations are being used as necessary to secure fire
lines.
Near Minky Fire: This fire lays south of the Jack and Buckhead Fires. The nearby Smith Fire that is part of the
Devil’s
Knob Complex is actively growing to the northeast into Ash Valley. Because of this, additional firefighting
resources
have been moved into Ash Valley to assist in containing the Smith Fire while looking for opportunities to
construct
containment lines for both the Smith and Near Minky Fires. This area is the focus area and priority for today’s
firefighting operations. The Near Minky Fire is at 0% containment.
Weather: Winds over all the fires are predominately out of the northwest and are pushing smoke out of the
area by
mid-morning – with smoke out of the area, fire activity is expected to pick up early. Gust up to 15 mph can
further
promote fire spread. Afternoon relative humidity is expected to be in the mid- 20s to the upper 30s which will
also
promote elevated burning conditions.

The Lick Creek fire remains 80,421 acres and 97% contained. Interior fuels are expected to dry in the coming

needed. The section of still uncontained line is burning in mixed conifer that is susceptible to spot fires. Until

Status 8/24/21 Update

Firefighters made significant progress yesterday, taking advantage of cooler weather and reduced fire
behavior. On the Mack Mountain Fire, crews completed the contingency line connecting Deadman Creek
Road and Albion Hill Road.

On both fires, the construction of direct containment lines along the fire’s edge is not possible due to the steep
and inaccessible terrain. Firefighters are building indirect containment lines where terrain and access permit,
usually at some distance from the fire’s edge. Additional work is underway to build contingency fire lines,
which can be used if the fire escapes these primary direct and indirect lines.

Today crews will continue to reinforce fire lines around both the Bulldog Mountain and Mack Mountain Fires.
Firefighters will scout locations for direct line and areas to connect fire line to the 800 Road. Brush chipping
projects on the 320 Road will continue. Work continues to the south of Mack Mountain Fire to connect a
contingency line from Albion Hill to Deadman Creek.

Weather has remained mild over the last few days. Warmer temperatures and slightly increased winds are
predicted by the end of the week which could increase fire behavior. A front is expected to enter the area on
Friday that may bring more rain.

Citizens should remain vigilant and are strongly encouraged to sign up for alerts at Ferry County Alerts.
Motorists traveling on Boulder Hwy and SR395 should watch for heavy equipment and firefighters turning off
and onto the roadway. Firefighter and public safety is our number one priority.

Smoke: Current weather conditions will moderate smoke impacts throughout the area today.

Closures: An area closure is in effect on Colville National Forest lands in the vicinity of the Bulldog Mountain

While current weather conditions provide respite from the extreme fire potential present in northeast
